The spiced apple butter complements the tequila and orange liqueur in this cocktail. Celebrate Fall with these apple butter margaritas!
While our celebrations may look very different this year, there is still plenty to be thankful for. I was very sad that most of Julian and my travel plans for 2020 have been put on hold. However, we have been extremely fortunate in many other respects. We are both able to work from home, and the slower pace of life right now has been refreshing. Although our thanksgiving dinners will be smaller, there is still lots to celebrate. I made this apple butter margarita to make this dinner special!
How to Make the Best Apple Butter Margaritas
While the full recipe details are available below, here are some tips to make the best thanksgiving cocktail!
Tequila: tequila is the main alcoholic ingredient in this cocktail, so it is important to use a good quality one. I used Jose Cuervo when making these margaritas.
Orange Liqueur: I recommend using triple sec for your orange liqueur in this cocktail. You will not need to use too much of the triple sec, since the apple cider and apple butter bring plenty of sweetness.
Apple Cider: I recommend using apple cider to get the best flavor in this cocktail. However, if you do not have any apple cider on hand, you can use apple juice as a substitute.
Apple Butter: while I recommend using your own homemade apple butter, the store bought variety also works just fine to save you time!
Lime Juice: to make the best cocktail, I recommend juicing fresh limes. I love using this citrus press which makes juicing your own fresh lemons and limes a breeze!
Cinnamon: I recommend you rim your glasses with a cinnamon sugar mixture. This is a step I encourage you to not skip this step, because it will take your cocktail to the next level. Using one of your juiced lime skins, wet the rim of your glass. Next, dip the rim of the glass into a plate with the cinnamon sugar mixture spread on it. Now you can pour your margaritas in the rimmed glasses and enjoy!
Combine the sugar and cinnamon on a small plate. Wet the rim of your glasses using a juiced lime skin and dip the rim of the glass into the cinnamon sugar mixture and set aside.
Add the apple cider, lime juice, tequila, triple sec, and apple butter to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds.
