Quick and Easy Fresh Fig Jam

Figs are in season right now and it is such a treat when I find them!  Fig jam is one of my favorite things to make in the Fall, and it is far easier than many would think! The honey like sweetness from the figs help make the jam sweet but not too much so.

Serving Suggestions for Fig Jam

Although the most common way to serve fig jam is as a condiment on cheese plates, here are some other ways you can use it:

  • As a spread on a grilled cheese or chicken sandwich
  • Complement a beef dip sandwich by adding fig jam to it
  • As a topping on pizza
  • Incorporating fig jam into pastries or tarts

Use your creativity and the uses for this jam are endless!

Tips to Make the Best Quick and Easy Fresh Fig Jam

While the full recipe instructions are available below, here are some tips to perfect this fig jam recipe.

  • Figs: this recipe calls for fresh figs.  If you cannot find fresh figs, you can substitute with dried figs.  Note however, that you may need to cook the jam mixture for longer, and you may need to adjust the amount of sugar you use.
  • Lemon: I recommend using the juice from a fresh lemon for this recipe since you will need the juice and the zest from it.  Be sure to remove any seeds that come out when juicing your lemons before adding the juice to the saucepan!
  • Thyme: I used fresh thyme leaves to make this jam, however you can used dry thyme leaves if you don't have fresh on hand.  I recommend you use approximately 1/3 of what the recipe calls for if using dried thyme leaves.
  • Cooking Process: this recipe is extremely simple because you just need to add the ingredients to a saucepan and simmer.  However, as the jam mixture begins to thicken, you will need to stir it very regularly to make sure the bottom of the mixture doesn't burn!
